United States: Air Wisconsin Airlines (ZW) has announced a major shift in its operations, ending its exclusive regional capacity agreement with American Airlines (AA) as of April 2025. Under the current deal, the airline operates flights solely for American under the American Eagle brand.

The transition marks the end of Air Wisconsin’s role as a dedicated regional partner for American Airlines. Instead, the two carriers will adopt a codeshare and interline agreement, reflecting a more flexible collaboration.

The move positions Air Wisconsin to expand its presence in the Essential Air Service (EAS) market, a US government program designed to connect small communities to the national air travel network. The airline's fleet of sixty 50-seat CRJ-200 aircraft is ideally suited for this purpose.

“This strategic shift underscores our adaptability and commitment to delivering reliable, customized air travel solutions where they are most needed,” said Robert Binns, President and CEO of Air Wisconsin.

In addition to EAS, the airline is focusing on growing its charter operations, aiming to diversify its business model while maintaining high standards of safety and service.

Air Wisconsin’s pivot highlights its readiness to adapt to the evolving aviation landscape, ensuring connectivity for underserved regions while exploring new growth opportunities.
