Kathmandu,Nepal: Adverse weather conditions are causing significant disruptions to flights across Nepal. Tribhuvan International Airport has reported that both domestic and international flights are facing delays due to heavy rain and low visibility.
Jagannath Niraula, General Manager of the airport, noted that continuous rainfall is impacting flight schedules. Flights to Pokhara have been postponed due to poor visibility, and services to Janakpur and Simra have also been delayed.
An Air China flight, scheduled to land at 10:55 AM, was diverted to another international airport because of the weather. Although other international flights faced temporary delays, they have since resumed landing operations.
Dipendra Kumar Karna from Buddha Air confirmed that flights at Pokhara Airport have been suspended due to adverse weather. Additionally, flights at Bharatpur Airport have been halted due to low visibility, and a Buddha Air flight was redirected from Surkhet to Nepalgunj this morning. Weather-related disruptions at Pokhara Airport also affected flights on Tuesday.
The Department of Water and Meteorology has attributed the disruptions to the monsoon season. The low-pressure system associated with the monsoon is causing widespread cloudy conditions and light to moderate rain in several regions, including Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces. The forecast indicates potential heavy rain in isolated areas of these provinces and a few other regions.
