Kathmandu,Nepal: Preliminary investigations have determined that the Saurya Airlines crash was due to the aircraft taking a wrong turn. According to the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority, the CRJ7 plane, which was headed from Tribhuvan International Airport to Pokhara, veered in the wrong direction shortly after takeoff.
The aircraft, which crashed within a minute of departure at 11:11 a.m. on Wednesday, turned right instead of left, leading to the tragic accident. Airport Chief Jagannath Niraula noted that further details will be provided once the investigation is complete.
The crash resulted in 18 fatalities, including 15 who died at the scene and three who succumbed to their injuries at the Teaching Hospital. Pilot Manish Shakya, the sole survivor, is receiving treatment at Kathmandu Medical College in Sinamangal. The plane carried 18 Nepalese and one Yemeni national, all of whom were Saurya Airlines employees.
