Afghanistan Joins Key Meeting on North-South Trade Corridor in Kazakhstan

An Afghan delegation, led by Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Mullah Hamdullah Akhundzada, participated in a pivotal meeting on the North-South Transit and Trade Corridor in Kazakhstan.

The meeting aimed to enhance connectivity between Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan, according to a statement from the Afghan Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation on X (formerly Twitter).

Kazinform International News Agency reported that by 2027, the capacity of the eastern branch of the North-South International Transport Corridor is expected to increase to 10 million tonnes annually.

The inaugural North-South International Transport Corridor meeting, held in Aktau from July 19 to 20, 2024, gathered over 440 participants from 12 countries. Delegates from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Turkmenistan, the UAE, Iran, Iraq, Oman, Uzbekistan, as well as representatives from the Economic Cooperation Organisation and the Eurasian Economic Commission, were in attendance.
