Airbus has initiated a groundbreaking partnership with five major stakeholders to establish Spain's inaugural hydrogen airport hub, marking a pivotal collaboration across the aviation sector's value chain.
Partnering with Aena, Air Nostrum, Iberia, Exolum, and Repsol, Airbus aims to pioneer hydrogen-powered aviation in Spain. This consortium represents a unified effort to comprehensively address the requirements for hydrogen aircraft, encompassing fuel supply, infrastructure development, and operational logistics at airports.
Karine Guenan, Airbus’ vice president of ZEROe Ecosystem, emphasized Spain's potential in renewable energy and low-carbon hydrogen production, stressing the importance of industry collaboration to establish a sustainable hydrogen supply chain to airports.
Maria José Sanz, director of quality and environment at Air Nostrum, highlighted the regional airline's pivotal role in the project, citing their readiness to adopt hydrogen technology due to the scale of their aircraft and typical flight distances.
Airbus has already forged agreements with partners and airports across 13 countries to expand hydrogen infrastructure in global aviation, underscoring its commitment to advancing sustainable aviation solutions worldwide.
