New Delhi,India: India and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering logistics, transportation, and defense cooperation during the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. The discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin focused on enhancing the Chennai-Vladivostok Maritime Corridor, the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), and the Northern Sea Route to improve Eurasian connectivity. Both nations aim to reduce cargo transportation time and cost via the INSTC and develop shipping routes between Russia and India through the Northern Sea Route. A joint working body within the IRIGC-TEC will be established to oversee this cooperation.
In energy and trade, the countries plan to explore long-term energy trade agreements and increase coal exports from Russia to India. The signing of the Program of Cooperation in the Russian Far East for 2024-2029 will enhance collaboration in agriculture, energy, mining, and more. Progress in the construction of nuclear power plants at Kudankulam was acknowledged, with a focus on adhering to schedules and exploring further cooperation on the VVER 1200 reactor and other nuclear applications. The partnership between the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Russia's Roscosmos will expand, particularly in human spaceflight, satellite navigation, and planetary exploration. Russia congratulated India on the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission, signaling deeper future collaboration.
Military cooperation remains a cornerstone of this strategic partnership, with plans for joint research, development, and production of advanced defense technologies. A new Working Group on Technological Cooperation will be established to facilitate joint manufacturing and technology transfer under India's Make-in-India program. This strategic partnership aims to enhance regional stability and foster economic growth, reinforcing the long-standing India-Russia alliance.
