Kathmandu,Nepal: A significant reduction in security passes at Tribhuvan International Airport has sparked concern among security agencies. The National Investigation Department has criticized the Nepal Police for the cuts in security passes for the 2024-2025 period, describing the decision as risky from a security perspective.
Sources within the department revealed dissatisfaction with Nepal Police, highlighting that while police officers received full access passes, National Investigation Department officers, including inspectors, were restricted from key areas such as the airport tower and cargo complex.
"Our investigation officers are barred from the tower, and other employees can't access the cargo complex," a departmental source complained. The reduction in access is seen as compromising airport security, with intelligence agencies sidelined and security protocols deemed unsafe and potentially illegal under International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.
