Kathmandu,Nepal: Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Minister Hit Bahadur Tamang has established an investigation committee to examine alleged maintenance negligence in Nepal Airlines Corporation. Led by former Civil Aviation Authority Director General Triratna Manandhar, the committee will investigate the C-check of the airline’s wide-body aircraft and engine maintenance issues with a narrow-body aircraft.
Minister Tamang has requested all relevant documents from the corporation's executive chairman, Yuvraj Adhikari, within 24 hours. The committee is tasked with scrutinizing the technical details and legal procedures surrounding the dispatch of an Airbus A-320 to Israel for engine maintenance and a wide-body aircraft to Italy for C-check without proper authorization. A comprehensive report is expected within 15 days.
The investigation team includes former Director General Ratish Chandra Lal, a chartered accountant, a legal expert, and ministry official Suvarnaraj Bhattarai as member secretary.
The Civil Aviation Authority has grounded pilots Maheshwarman Dangol and Raman Ghimire for transporting a plane to an unlicensed Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Naples, Italy, without completing necessary paperwork. Executive Chairman Yuvraj Adhikari, Engineer Gyan Bahadur Kunwar, and Operations Director Dipuraj Jwarchan have also been suspended from aviation-related duties. An additional four-member committee, led by aviation expert Bheshraj Subedi, will further investigate the incident.
