Kathmandu, Nepal: Grounded for over a year due to financial issues, Guna Airlines is back in the sky. The airline has settled its outstanding dues with the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and is gearing up to resume regular flights before the upcoming Dashain festival.
Guna Airlines Chairman Rajendra Shakya confirmed clearing all dues, amounting to Rs 67.3 million, paving the way for renewed operations. Additionally, the airline's previously withheld Rs 65 million bank guarantee has been released by the CAAN.
Shakya announced plans to utilize two "Witchcraft" aircraft (model unclear) for regular flights in the near future. However, the company also intends to sell its existing fleet of five Jetstream planes.
Looking towards the future, Guna Airlines revealed its intention to transition to ATR-72 aircraft, suggesting a potential upgrade in capacity and range. While the Witchcraft aircraft will serve the initial relaunch phase, they are likely to be phased out once the ATRs are introduced.
This development signifies a potential new player in Nepal's domestic aviation market, potentially increasing competition and route options for travelers ahead of the busy Dashain season.
