Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane has highlighted significant improvements at the Tribhuvan International Airport Immigration Office, asserting that a technical committee is currently studying further enhancements.
During an inspection of the airport’s immigration services, Minister Lamichhane emphasized his long-standing commitment to improving immigration procedures. "Immigration has improved," he stated, noting that a committee of experts will provide a comprehensive report in three months to guide additional reforms.
Lamichhane attributed the improvements to consistent monitoring and directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs. "Recent changes in immigration reflect positive developments in Nepal," he said, describing immigration as the country's gateway and crucial to accommodating change.
Celebrating his first 100 days in office, Lamichhane expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the immigration sector. "I am here to commend and encourage you," he told the employees, pledging ongoing support for those who perform their duties with integrity.
Home Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, accompanying Lamichhane, reiterated the government's focus on enhancing the immigration office. "While there has been improvement, more effort is needed to meet expectations," Aryal remarked. He emphasized the goal of making government services cashless, faceless, and paperless to ensure transparency.
Aryal also instructed efficient service delivery at the immigration office, which serves approximately 8,000 citizens daily, stressing its importance as a reflection of overall service delivery in Nepal.
The monitoring team included senior officials such as Director General of the Immigration Department Koshahari Niraula, Inspector General of Police Basant Bahadur Kunwar, and Inspector General of the Armed Police Force Raju Aryal. They joined the Home Minister and Home Secretary in evaluating the operations at the immigration office.
During the visit, the officials also introduced new uniforms for immigration staff to enhance their identification and provide better service to users. This initiative aims to motivate employees and facilitate easier recognition for foreign visitors interacting with immigration services.
The Ministry of Home Affairs believes these changes will foster a more efficient and user-friendly experience at Nepal’s primary international gateway.
