Kathmandu,Nepal: In a significant boost to international connectivity, FlyDubai has resumed its daily operations at Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa starting today. The airline had suspended its services for a month since December 15, 2024, due to poor winter visibility.

"We're back to our regular schedule, picking up right where we left off," said Pratap Babu Tiwari, General Manager of Gautam Buddha International Airport. The daily flights, scheduled for 2 PM, will use Bhairahawa as a transit point before continuing to Kathmandu.

The resumption comes after the airport's recent installation of the RNPAR system, a satellite-based technology that enables airlines to operate even in low-visibility conditions. This technological upgrade has played a crucial role in attracting international carriers back to the airport.

Meanwhile, Jazeera Airways, which also suspended operations on December 15, is preparing to restore its thrice-weekly flights, though no definitive schedule has been announced yet. However, not all carriers share this optimism. Qatar Airways has permanently withdrawn its services after determining that their initial "touch-down" flights were not commercially viable. Air Asia maintains an irregular schedule, operating flights every 7-15 days based on convenience.

Nepal Airlines Corporation continues to serve the airport, operating on the Kathmandu-Bhairahawa-Dubai route, maintaining a vital link between these destinations.

The revival of international flights at Gautam Buddha Airport marks a turning point in Nepal's aviation sector, particularly as it strives to establish itself as a key regional hub despite weather-related challenges.
