Kathmandu,Nepal: In an unexpected development during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's China visit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has volunteered support for the operations of Pokhara International Airport, despite the issue not being on the official agenda.
Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana, who accompanied PM Oli on the trip, revealed this development during a meeting of the Parliamentary International Relations and Tourism Committee. "While Pokhara Airport wasn't part of our planned discussions, Foreign Minister Wang Yi specifically stated 'We will help to run Pokhara Airport,'" Rana reported to the committee.
The Chinese commitment comes at a crucial time for Nepal's newest international airport, which has been struggling to attract international flights since its inauguration. This unexpected offer of assistance suggests China's growing interest in Nepal's aviation infrastructure, particularly given that Chinese contractors were involved in the airport's construction.
