Kathmandu,Nepal: Saurya Airlines is on the verge of resuming flights after a devastating crash that took the lives of 18 people six months ago. An airline official confirmed that they have submitted all required documentation to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and are now awaiting the green light for their air operator's certificate (AOC).

The CAAN has acknowledged the receipt of Saurya Airlines' paperwork and is currently assessing whether the airline meets crucial staffing and airworthiness standards. This comes after the tragic incident on July 24, 2024, involving a CRJ200ER during takeoff from Kathmandu. In response to this tragedy, Saurya Airlines has taken significant steps to enhance safety and operational reliability, including hiring new technical staff and adding more aircraft to their fleet.

Currently, Saurya Airlines had  two CRJ200 aircraft, with only one currently in full working order. To bolster their team, the airline has recently onboarded five new captains and five first officers, many of whom have been recruited from other airlines in Nepal and India. With financial support from its 49% shareholder, India's Kuber Group, the airline has managed to keep employee salaries up to date and is planning to acquire three new ATR72-600 aircraft.

As Saurya Airlines prepares for this critical moment, they are looking to shift from the Bombardier CRJ fleet to the ATR fleet, which promises to enhance their service offerings. The team's commitment to safety and reliability remains a top priority as they look to rebuild trust and ensure a smooth return to the skies.
