Kathmandu,Nepal: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is considering reducing the nightly closure hours of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) as repair and construction work progresses ahead of schedule. Discussions are underway to finalize the decision, CAAN officials have confirmed.
According to CAAN Director General Pradeep Adhikari, the accelerated pace of construction has created the possibility of shortening the airport's closure period. However, no final decision has been made.
"The work is progressing swiftly, and we are exploring the feasibility of reducing the closure hours. A decision will be made soon," Adhikari told .
Current Closure Schedule and Impact
To facilitate the ongoing upgrade, TIA currently remains closed from 10 PM to 8 AM daily. This closure has forced airlines operating regular flights from TIA to shift some of their operations to Bhairahawa and Pokhara airports.
The upgrade work is aimed at enhancing the airport’s facilities and is expected to be completed within five months.
By potentially reducing the closure hours, CAAN aims to minimize the disruption to airlines and passengers while maintaining the pace of the construction and repair work.
