Gulmi, Nepal : Flights have resumed operations at Resunga Airport in Gulmi district following a month-long hiatus due to unfavorable weather conditions. The airport reopened on Wednesday and Friday of this week, much to the relief of residents and visitors who had faced significant inconvenience due to the disruption in air services, especially during the recent Dashain and Tihar festivals.
Suman Thapa, the station chief of Nepal Airlines at Resunga Airport, confirmed the resumption of flights. Passengers had expressed dissatisfaction with the frequent flight cancellations, particularly during such important occasions. The flights between Kathmandu and Resunga Airport were scheduled to depart at 6:30 AM and 7:45 AM, respectively, but the morning cloud cover often led to flight disruptions.
In the past, the airport faced similar challenges due to inclement weather, with flights being suspended for two months starting from the second week of June. Although there was a brief resumption of services in late August, the recent month-long interruption during the festive season was particularly problematic.
To meet the growing demand, Nepal Airlines has approved three weekly flights from Resunga Airport. However, for the time being, flights are only available on Wednesdays and Fridays.
The introduction of air travel to Gulmi has significantly boosted international tourism in the district. Tourists can now conveniently access the region’s popular attractions. The current fare from Gulmi to Kathmandu is NPR 7,800, while the return trip from Kathmandu to Gulmi costs NPR 7,280.
Resunga Airport is situated in Simichaur, Resunga Municipality-10.
