Kathmandu: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has initiated a fresh probe into the involvement of customs officials in the recent case of 14 kg of gold seized at Tribhuvan International Airport. This move comes in response to a letter from the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Kathmandu, urging the CIAA to investigate government employees linked to the gold smuggling case.
The District Public Prosecutor's Office, following the filing of a charge sheet in the District Court Kathmandu, explicitly requested the CIAA to look into the alleged involvement of government employees in the gold smuggling incident. In adherence to these instructions, the CIAA has launched an investigation into the matter.
Under the directives of the public prosecutor, the Authority will scrutinize the circumstances surrounding the gold seizure and the potential complicity of government officials. The Customs Office at Tribhuvan International Airport had confiscated 14 kg of gold from an individual, Chandra Ghale, arriving in Kathmandu from Fly Dubai on the night of December 7, 2023.
